Senior Accountant

Georgetown Federal Credit Union
This position is currently a one-person operation, reporting directly to the CEO.
Process and post member ACH payroll, wires, share draft returns and charge backs and all fraud related issues. Process all account payables and receivables in the appropriate gl.

Post entries to member accounts and the general ledger, reconciles branch cash order, corporate account, Visa, Share Branch, ATM settlement and process FR2900 transmission. Reconcile all other miscellaneous g/l accounts, to include visa cash advances. Prepare reports and forward them to the appropriate parties. File and/or scan documents into the archival system. Keep records of all invoices and ensure that vendors are paid on time. Participate in monthly finance/ALM meetings with members of the board of directors. Prepare credit union Financials for the monthly board meetings.

Work with the CEO to create a budget and provide input regarding growth initiatives. Meet department goals and advise the senior management team about the credit union’s investments portfolio and how to maximize return on earnings. Prepare the quarterly NCUA Call Report. Performs other projects and duties as assigned. Work with outside professional(s) to learn how to prepare the monthly financials and board package. In all dealings with the public, members, employees or credit union board members, responsibility or ownership is taken and pending issues are monitored to resolution.


1. Refer issues outside the Accountant level of knowledge or authority to the senior management team. Follow through on commitments and follows-up as promised.

2. Complete all general ledger reconciliations and make sure that they are balanced daily in a timely and accurate manner. Follow up with appropriate staff or third parties to ensure reconciling items are cleared in a timely manner. Assist with annual audits and NCUA exams.

3. Maintain documents and reports in a neat and organized fashion in order to facilitate research and improve efficiency. Scan, file, or shred documents and reports, as appropriate.

4. Ensure specific responsibilities are completed timely and accurately and accounting calculations and entries are error free. Prepare neat and accurate supporting documentation. Conduct a thorough self-review of all work prior to submitting data to the CEO and the Finance/ALM Committee. Develop recommendations and suggestions for the CEO to resolve problems that occur in specific areas of responsibility or improving effectiveness or efficiency.

5. Assist with and complete other responsibilities and special projects as assigned by the senior management team based on the needs of the department.

6. Meet the current standards as established for the department or branch in the completion of all assigned duties.

7. Seek out continue education courses/classes to maintain and enhance accounting skills and knowledge.

8. Take the initiative to improve the accounting operations. Be prepared to finds ways to help the organization to become more efficient.


Accounting degree or an equivalent combination of college level accounting and related work experience is required. Financial institution experience is preferred. Excel and spreadsheet skills and knowledge required. Patience and flexibility (the ability to handle multiple tasks and to prioritize tasks) essential. Responsible for abiding and complying with the policy for compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering laws and regulations (BSA/AML) and the policy for compliance with office of foreign assets control laws and regulations (OFAC).
