Summary: The IT Specialist is responsible for monitoring and supporting the credit union’s technology infrastructure, working with outsourced vendors to ensure efficient and secure operation.

Education/Experience:
An Associates’ degree in technology or business is preferred, with a minimum of 2 years of related experience, including network administration, desktop and application support, network security, etc.

Intermediate to advanced skills in network administration/security, hardware/software support, as well as experience working with outsourced technology vendors. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and work independently are important, as are strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely via written and verbal communications.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software including Microsoft Word and Windows based applications.

Position Responsibilities: 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Support the credit union’s local area and wide area network hardware and software to ensure that back end functions, systems, PCs, servers, and all peripheral products, including the phone system, are operational. Monitor and assess to provide input regarding the efficiency of the credit union’s technology infrastructure to include hubs, switches, enterprise routers, servers, and network hardware and software.
    • Provide and run backup procedures that maintain the integrity and security of the credit union’s technology infrastructure.
    • Research and diagnose IT problems within the entire infrastructure; troubleshoot, and provide solutions. Test solutions to ensure efficient and effective resolution.
    • Working with vendors, install, configure, and test new servers for systems, fax, printers, etc. Technology includes knowledge of Windows, NT, Citrix, SQL, and/or Exchange.
    • Serves as primary contact for problems with networks, servers, and emergencies with MDT.
    • Recommends changes or upgrades or new products as a result of on-going administration of the network. Research and resolve network problems for end users. Working with vendors, installs hardware and software.
    • Responsible for ordering, preparing, and installing new PCs and printers.
    • Responds via phone, in-person, and/or on-line to end user problems with software applications, systems integration, or individual hardware problems. Troubleshoots, debugs, and resolves the problem, working with vendors, as appropriate.
    • Maintain complete and accurate documentation and support services/warranties for new equipment, software, hardware, and peripherals.
    • Working with vendors, installs and tests new network and end user software and upgrades.
    • Responsible for ensuring that all copiers, printers, PCs, laptops and security systems are properly maintained and in good working order.
    • Process ACH, PPD and Share Draft postings.
    • Support the credit union’s strategic plans by researching and assessing potential technology solutions that support those plans.
    • Attend classes, seminars, conferences, etc. to stay abreast of relevant best-in-class hardware and software developments, evolving security threats and related remediation, and regularly educates management and the Board of Directors on these developments.
    • Work with auditors to ensure compliance.
    • Update and maintain OFAC file.
