Member Service Representative

Prince George’s Community Federal Credit Union
Seeking an experienced Member Service Representative who, under general supervision, but following established policies and procedures, performs the duties associated with facilitating service credit union members by promoting and coordinating the enrollment in products and services offered by the credit union.

Establishing new accounts, accepting loan applications, addressing issues of account maintenance, while preventing fraud and supporting the financial needs of the membership in accordance with the federal guidelines and regulations; compliance requirements and the rules of the institution. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Originates and processes consumer loan applications by phone and in person for members.  Activities include, but are not limited to: counseling members on various loan products and taking member applications.  Completes verification of income, employment, assets, down payments, debts, and property values.  Ensures that all applications are complete, including preparation and issuance of required disclosures, etc.
  • Processes consumer loan applications that are originated by other Credit Union departments (Call Center, Branches).  Processing activities include, but are not limited to: verification of income, employment, assets, down payments, debts, and property values.  Responsible for ensuring that all applications are complete, including preparation and issuance of required disclosures, etc.
  • Prepares initial underwriting of consumer applications, including but not limited to: calculations of debt and LTV ratios, reviewing credit report, etc.  Completes required information on consumer loan control sheet and submits completed package to another approving MSR II or Loan Officer.
  • Has the ability to approve loans within discretionary limits determined by Loan Supervisor and/or EVP of Operations.
  • Coordinates and prepares pre-closing and closing documentation.  Performs all system file maintenance and disburses funds.  Scan all loan documentations.
  • Maintains loan documentation in members file, ensuring all policies and procedures of the Credit Union are followed.  Update loan records as required.  Audits files to insure that all required documents are present and accounted for.  Assists with filing and portfolio review.
  • Perform other Lending and administrative duties as assigned by the Branch Manager.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a sales environment.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment (lines of members, numerous phone calls, complicated member issues), filling in on the teller line as needed.
  • Process all new membership applications, which include collecting all required documentations and maintenance the new account. Close out all accounts when necessary. Scan all membership applications, chexsystem, verafin, and issue debit cards.
  • Process all check orders.
  • Assist the members with the processing of direct deposit and payroll deduction forms.
  • Ability to open share certificates, CDs, and pot of gold accounts.
  • Process IRA contributions, withdrawals, rollovers and direct transfers, set up payroll deductions for IRA contributions and process federal withholding in IRA distributions.
  • Maintains a high level of knowledge and procedural expertise in all Credit Union products and services.
  • Provide training for new colleagues and guidance to MSR 1.
  • Must qualify as a notary within one year of hire and maintain certification.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Member services functions are efficiently, effectively, and accurately performed in accordance with established policies, standards, and security procedures.
  • Good business relations exist with members.
  • Actively and enthusiastically participates in the cross selling of various credit union products and services.
  • Good working relationships and coordination exist with area personnel and management.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to MSR 1.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Requires High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum four years of teller or member service in a credit union or retail environment is preferred.
  • Requires sales excellence.
  • Requires strong written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision.
  • Requires basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
