Position Description:

Seeking candidates interested in a challenging and rewarding position as a Collections Officer working in our Towson, Maryland office.  This position will be part of a successful collection team that not only supports the needs of the credit union, but seeks ways to help our membership meet their financial responsibilities. This individual will oversee the Collections Department, manage a team of collectors, be responsible for achieving delinquency and charge-off goals established by senior management, coordinate legal proceedings with attorneys, be personally involved in resolving escalated collection cases, and coach and mentor staff.  Successful candidates will have the ability to analyze, interpret and communicate regulatory information and technical procedures governing delinquency, bankruptcy and collection activities.  This position requires:  (1) a diploma from a public or accredited private high school or the possession of a high school equivalency diploma; (2) three years experience dealing in all aspects of collections, including bankruptcies, and (3) one year of supervisory experience.  An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience may be substituted for these requirements on the basis of 30 credit hours of education for one year experience and vice versa.  The successful completion of an approved supervisory training program may be substituted for the one year of required supervisory experience.  BCEFCU is an equal opportunity employer. 

Position Responsibilities:

1.      Collects past due and over-limit accounts

2.      Maintains collection guidelines by recommending the establishment and/or changes to criteria for collections/delinquency actions

3.      Evaluates collection policies and procedures by assessing accounts recovered in relation to effort, methods and costs involved

4.      Supervises and develops collections staff

5.      Refers member accounts to an attorney as necessary; filing suit in small claims court for accounts under $2,500; arranging for repossessions and sale of goods

6.      Represents the Credit Union in court by serving as a witness in selected court hearings

7.      Resolves credit report disputes by verifying the accuracy of members’ credit reports and updating them when necessary

8.      Acquires reaffirmation of credit union accounts by contacting debtors’ attorneys; preparing reaffirmation agreements; attending first meeting of creditors; objecting to discharges if fraud has occurred

9.      Monitors bankruptcy proceedings by filing proof of claim; monitoring bankruptcy accounts for assets until they have been discharged

10.  Processes court order wage attachments by establishing escrow accounts; freezing the appropriate members’ accounts

11.  Resolves delinquency issues that arise as a result of payroll problems by investigating accounts; making necessary changes to members’ payroll cards

12.  Identifies potentially fraudulent activities by investigating account documentation

13.  Prepares reports for the Manager, Delinquency Committee, and Board of Directors
