Accounting Specialist

A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Accounting Specialist to assist the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with various accounting and finance duties.

PAHO/WHO FCU has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Accounting Specialist to assist the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with various accounting and finance duties including maintaining accurate records, posting general ledger entries, reconciliations, and other duties assigned by the CFO. They will also be responsible for accurate, timely completion of general accounting and bookkeeping duties and to ensure compliance of federal and state policies pertaining to financial institutions.
 

TRAINING/SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma required; Associates degree preferred.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in a financial institution in the areas of finance, accounting or bookkeeping.
• Strong working knowledge & understanding of ACH Rules & Regulations

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
. Demonstrated knowledge of accounting processes and compliance.
. Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish required.
. Strong interpersonal and customer relations skills.
. Excellent organizational, problem solving, and communication skills.
. Must be detail oriented with strong math and analytical skills. 

KEY RESULT AREAS:
. Performs daily share postings and returns non-sufficient funds (NSF) checks to the Federal Reserve Bank.
. Processes the daily electronic posting of all automated clearing houses (ACH) files using the Fed line system and returns ACH payment(s) as needed.
. Processes returned member check deposits and corporate check stop payments(s). Communicates all adjustments to members.
. Provides daily ATM reports from ATM processor on line system and performs daily ATM cash settlement and book entries to general ledger.
. Provides staff and members with transaction accounting information and reconciliation.
. Provides daily Bank Statements on line system and performs daily bank reconciliations and prepare daily Credit Union’s cash flow.
. Processes and post daily account receivables and send daily deposit to related bank.
. Processes account payables in a timely manner as authorized by the CFO, and maintains accurate records and file systems.
. Process all credit card daily settlement and book entries to the general ledger and reconciles related general ledger accounts. Provides members with account information and assists them
  with the reconciliation of their credit and debit accounts.
. Download monthly o- line invoice from credit card processor and export and allocate the expenses and book entries to general ledger.
. Processes domestic and international wires as requested by members and maintains daily wire logs.

 COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS:
. Complete required annual Bank Secrecy Act training which includes emphasis on identifying suspicious activity, monitoring high-risk accounts, adhering to the Member Identification
  Program (MIP), and performing an Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) check.
. Bank Secrecy Act responsibilities include identifying suspicious activity, reporting suspicious activity to your manager, monitoring high-risk accounts, helping to identify high-risk members
  (accounts), adhering to the Member Identification Program (MIP) Policy, and performing Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) checks.
. Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This is a desk assignment within an office setting. The job calls for a high degree of mental concentration to interpret and act upon a wide range of situations. This position requires dexterity to operate computer systems, and use other office machinery such as a keyboard, telephone, fax machine and copier.
