The Chief Lending Officer (CLO) is responsible for overseeing loan production including consumer, mortgage, and commercial lending.

Tidemark Federal Credit Union with assets of $300 million is seeking applicants for a Chief Lending Officer. Tidemark FCU is located in Sussex County, DE with our headquarters being located in Seaford, DE. We started 1959 to serve employees of the DuPont Nylon Capital Plant in Seaford, Delaware. Over the years, we've changed names, expanded our membership base and increased our assets exponentially as a result. Today, we're Tidemark Federal Credit Union, operating with a charter that serves 15,000 members in Delaware, Maryland and beyond. Tidemark FCU has a smoke-free hiring policy. 

Position Summary:

The Chief Lending Officer (CLO) is responsible for overseeing loan production including consumer, mortgage, and commercial lending. The position responsibilities extend to compliance, development of policies and procedures as well as overall process improvement, control and quality. Development of Lending Department budget and strategies. This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer, serves on the executive management team and includes significant interaction with the board of directors, government regulators and other third parties.


Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provides leadership, motivation, and coaching to Lending and Branch staff.
Determines appropriate staffing levels based on loan volume.
Collaborates with other departments within the Credit Union to continuously improve the lending product line to meet member needs.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Organizes, schedules, and distributes work among assigned personnel.
Keeps personnel informed of pertinent policies and procedures affecting the loan department and/or their jobs; creates an atmosphere in which upward communication from employees is encouraged.
Administers personnel policies and procedures as established by TFCU policy.
Communicates with and provides timely reporting to the CEO.

Technical tasks are as follows:

  • Ensures regulatory compliance for all lending products.
  • Develops and monitors underwriting standards to maintain acceptable loan delinquency and losses.
  • Ensures staff is trained on policy, procedure and service levels.
  • Manages and maintains effective and user-friendly loan application systems for staff and members.
  • Develops user friendly forms and forms management.
  • Continuously enhances and streamlines processes and procedures to improve operational efficiencies and member service delivery.
  • Manages projects and project teams.
  • Promotes and supports business development opportunities.
  • Monitors the current market and competition to optimize the Credit Union’s lending strategy.
  • Manages applicable vendor partners to provide ancillary products and services and monitors their performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Dynamic, innovative, adaptable.
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory, policy and compliance issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of human resources issues, including performance management and progressive discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. MBA or equivalent work experience.
  • Eight to ten years of experience in lending with increasing responsibilities for multi-faceted direction and planning.
  • Significant industry knowledge.
  • Encompass experience a plus.
  • Thorough comprehension of credit risk management, credit administration, loan production and loan servicing.
  • Thorough knowledge of TFCU’s products and service.
  • Strong knowledge of core processing system.
