Job Title: Underwriter I, II, III – Real Estate (Level determined based on experience and interview results)
Department: Lending – Real Estate Loan Fulfillment

Function:
Support the Real Estate lending fulfillment function by underwriting consumer single family dwelling real estate loan decisions in accordance with Credit Union and secondary market policies and procedures. Identify and effectively communicate cross selling opportunities. Knowledgeable and experienced in reviewing conforming and non-conforming real estate loan products offered by the Credit Union.

Underwriter I:
Maintain knowledge of Credit Union policies and procedures, government regulations and underwriting guidelines as they pertain to real estate lending.
Use knowledge and independent judgement to determine real estate loan risk eligibility in conjunction with regulations, guidelines, policies and programs available.
Analyze applicant credit data, financial status, financial statements and collateral evaluation to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.
Review real estate loan applications to identify the optimum lending product/potential cross selling opportunities for member needs and communicates such to appropriate staff.
Execute real estate loan decisions efficiently and accurately in accordance with Credit Union lending guidelines.
Provide appropriate/quality real estate loan decisions within the lending authority designated by the Chief Lending Officer/Chief Executive Officer.
Refer real estate loan requests above established loan authority to higher level Underwriter or Fulfillment Manager recommending approval, counter offer or rejection of real estate loans above established authority.
Minimum of three years of real estate loan underwriting experience and a two-year college degree or completion of extensive industry training.
Maintain production, quality and service standards for real estate lending.
Assist in the achievement of Credit Union Strategic Plan Goals.
Underwriter II:
Perform all duties of Underwriter I.
Maintain knowledge of government compliance regulations and investor, vendor and secondary market guidelines.
Use independent judgment and standard operating procedures to determine available options and course of action while underwriting and reviewing loan applications. Submit suggestions for resolution to Fulfillment Manager for decision.
Perform other related duties of similar scope and complexity.
Underwriter III:
Perform all duties of Underwriter I and II.
Minimum of five years of real estate loan underwriting experience and a two-year college degree or completion of extensive industry training.
Assign work and oversee underwriting/processing to assist Fulfillment Manager in meeting production, quality and service standards.
Resolve problems with courtesy, tact and diplomacy, which involves contact with others inside and outside the Credit Union.
Apply analytical skills, judgment and ingenuity to make decisions within the scope of standard operating procedures. Make recommendations to Lending Officer for exceptions to policies and procedures.
Provide staff training.
Identify needs for improvement or change among existing Credit Union real estate loan products and procedures.
Perform other related duties of similar scope and complexity.

Hours:
Full-Time
40 Hour Work Week
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 8:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. (with a half hour unpaid lunch each day)
Tuesday 8:15 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. (with a one hour unpaid lunch)
