Job Summary
This position will be responsible for successful management of the Credit Union's mortgage loan origination process by directing and coordinating the activities of the mortgage department. Directly oversees the origination, processing, closing and delivery of mortgage loans offered by the institution. Coaches, mentors and leads the direct reports in best practices to meet the institution's strategic goals. These responsibilities are done within all Credit Union policies and procedures as well as all applicable laws and regulations. All Securityplus employees are expected to be ambassadors of the Credit Union delivering excellent intradepartmental and member service, while promoting the Credit Union and cross-selling its products and services.

Duties and Essential Job Functions
Responsible for day-to-day operations and implementation of applicable policies and procedures in accordance with strategic plans, programs and objectives. Must maintain a strong working knowledge of the mortgage lending including processing, underwriting, credit analysis, property appraisal, title work, disbursement, settlement, accounting entries and other lending functions.
Works with Marketing to develop marketing initiatives, as well as metrics for desired result, designed to improve all real estate loan product usage, increase average loan balances, and communicates the desired results to the employees and other stakeholders.
Maintains general supervisory activities including scheduling, coaching/counseling, on-the-job training, career development, addressing performance issues, preparing and delivering performance reviews within regulatory and Credit Union requirements.
Recommend new ideas, plans, and business models as well as review existing mortgage loan products for improvement or elimination to increase the Credit Union’s results and achieve strategic goals. Successfully monitors and provides exceptional loan service. Ensures service delivery to members is at the highest quality the Credit Union is capable of delivering and acts quickly on service issues. Assesses service effectiveness of the loan department on an ongoing basis and develops strategies that will generate staff feedback and new ideas to aid in increasing effectiveness.
Recommends and develops procedural changes as compliance requires or new programs demand. Maintains loan documents in compliance with policy and federal regulations without exceptions. Develops, recommends and manages outsourced vendor relationships, and ensures that due diligence processes take place initially and annually thereafter.
Monitor key loan products for profitability, sound business practices, high quality service delivery and ensure that employees are maximizing cross-sell opportunities. Monitor and provide statistics and graphs showing department activity such as loan interviews, loan phone interviews, loan approvals, loan closings, loan officer approval ratio, decline ratio, etc.
Successfully plans and manages mortgage lending projects required to achieve short and long term goals and strategies as established by the Chief Operating Officer. Review rates and recommend changes as needed to stay within the scope of the credit union’s peers. Provides periodic mortgage department updates and financial/operational reports.
Ensures all mortgage software is current and in compliance with all applicable policies and regulations. Maintains existing software and makes modifications as necessary to ensure they are operating at maximum efficiency.
Performs other duties as instructed or assigned by your Supervisor.
Responsible for compliance with rules and regulations including but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act.

· Education/Certifications
A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Master’s degree is a plus. Ability to speak and read Spanish fluently (bilingual earning potential).

· Experience
Should possess five years or more experience in Mortgage Lending. Three years of supervisory experience. Experience in managing and implementing mortgage products and systems required. Experience managing one or more lending functions is a plus! Proven working knowledge of NCUA or banking regulations is required.

· Computer experience
Must possess good PC skills, including word-processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, internet based programs and strong experience with automated systems: database, financial modeling, and credit union/banking systems. Experience on related financial institution customer service systems, or other closely related financial data input and retrieval systems/equipment also required.

· Required skills and abilities
Prepare monthly production reports for senior management.

Guide, coach, evaluate and motivate a team of mortgage originators, processors and closers.

Manage the mortgage loan process from application through closing.
Must register as an MLO in the NMLS.
Monitor the mortgage loan pipeline on a daily basis to ensure service level and production targets are achieved.
Ensure all mortgage lending activity is in compliance with established policies and regulations.
Knowledge of conventional, FHA, VA and USDA loans.
Must have the ability to be bonded by an insurance company.
Ensure mortgages sold on the secondary market are within investor/agency guidelines.
Occasionally attend meetings or events that may occur outside of regularly scheduled work hours.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position involves typical office work such as the use of the PC, reviewing manuals and related office papers, the use of the telephone, fax, and photocopy machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit; occasionally required to stand; walk; reach; talk; and hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
