Marketing & Communications Specialist

This position is responsible for the day-to-day functions of marketing communications, copywriting, social media, community relations and branding activities in support of the Credit Union’s strategic goals.

Job Summary
Responsible for research and development of content for print and digital marketing materials. These responsibilities are conducted in accordance with all Credit Union policies and procedures as well as all applicable laws and regulations.

Duties and Essential Job Functions
• Responsible for copywriting communication materials necessary to support the marketing department.
• Gathers information and prepares materials for Credit Union website, mobile site, reports, member statements, and related communications to members and staff.
• Implements the Credit Union’s social media strategy and manages presence on all relevant platforms (e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Google).
• Oversees and directs external vendors and suppliers, including agencies, to ensure that all public relations activities support short and long term objectives.
• Develops and maintains content for online properties such as websites, landing pages, and intranet as needed. Researches and implements best practice for search engine optimization/search engine marketing (SEO/SEM).
• Coordinates and implements interactive marketing activities (e.g.: email blasts, social media posts, etc.) on an ongoing basis.
• Monitors Credit Union online brand reputation and where appropriate responds to online reviews, answers questions, and participates in online conversations to build brand visibility and thought leadership.
• Identifies issues/trends and regularly shares insights gained from social media monitoring with internal departments for product development/enhancement, service improvements, and branding opportunities.
• Establishes key performance indicators for measuring the impact of social media programs, and reports results monthly.
• Manages incoming media requests and builds relationships with industry journalists and key influencers.
• Develops and distributes optimized media releases to a full range of media outlets, and proactively seeks media opportunities to promote positive attention for the Credit Union brand.
• Tracks and reports media coverage, pickups, reach, and context of brand mentions. Maintains up-to-date news/press on Credit Union website.
• Works with various departments and vendors to develop promotional strategies.
• Responsible for compliance with rules and regulations including but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act.
• Supports Credit Union public relations and community event activities.

Qualifications
• Education/Certifications
Marketing or Communications Bachelor’s degree preferred; or equivalent work related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience
Requires minimum of 3 years of experience in marketing, communications or public relations, as well as relevant product and industry knowledge, including a thorough understanding of credit union and/or financial institution products and services, concepts, practices and procedures.

• Computer experience
Proficiency with PC skills including word-processing, spreadsheet, electronic calendar, and e-mail. Experience with design software also required.

• Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position involves typical office work such as the use of the PC, reviewing manuals and related office papers, the use of the telephone, fax, and photocopy machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit; occasionally required to stand; walk; reach; talk; and hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
