HR Generalist

Currently seeking a full-time HR Generalist at our main location in Fairfax.

This position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The HR Generalist reports to the VP of Human Resources.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • • Maintains the credit union's HRIS, ensuring information is kept current. Prepares and runs reports to track various HR metrics. Makes recommendations to management regarding HR systems and vendors. Maintains up to date procedures for HR Generalist functions.
  • • Administers employee benefit plans. Distributes benefits information and serves as main point of contact for employee questions and concerns. Processes enrollments, terminations, and changes in benefits systems and coordinates annual Open Enrollment. Reviews and approves billing. Administers FMLA, COBRA, and ACA reporting.
  • • Recruits and screens prospective employees. Prepares and posts position vacancies internally and externally, screens resumes, and coordinates interview process. Interviews candidates, provide feedback and makes recommendations to management regarding hiring decisions. Conducts background checks. Conducts onboarding for new employees, including new hire paperwork, benefits overview, and Employee Handbook information.
  • • Processes bi-weekly payroll, including payroll preparation, transmission, and audit of reports. Makes appropriate adjustments and enters changes in the payroll system as needed. Fields employee questions and concerns regarding payroll. Stays current on payroll system updates and capabilities. Ensures quarter and year end deadlines are met and W-2s are distributed prior to IRS deadline.
  • • Assists with HR initiatives such as company events, recognition programs, employee surveys, and employee training on human resources topics.

Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • • Three to five years of experience in human resources. A generalist background in HR administration is preferred.
  • • A college degree in human resources, business management, organization development or other related field; or equivalent experience including completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program. PHR or SHRM certification preferred.
  • • A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Must be able to handle sensitive employee issues. Ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.
  • • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • • Microsoft Office proficient (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience with ADP’s Workforce Now a plus. Utilize standard office equipment.
  • • Ability to sit at a desk or stand for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • • Minimal travel required.
