July 21 Confirmation Hearing Set for NCUA Board Nominee

The Senate Banking Committee will hold a confirmation hearing for Kyle Hauptman who was nominated by President Trump last month.

Hauptman280x210Hauptman would replace J. Mark McWatters whose term on the NCUA Board expired August 2019. A native of Maine, Hauptman is currently an advisor for Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton on economic policy and staff director of the Senate Banking Committee’s subcommittee on economic policy. From 2015 to 2016, Hauptman served on the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s Advisory Committee for Small and Emerging Companies.

An ardent critic of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Hauptman served on the 2016 Presidential Transition Landing Team tasked with evaluating the CFPB. Hauptman is expected to face tough questioning during his confirmation hearing from Senator Elizabeth Warren who was the chief architect of the CFPB.

Should he be confirmed, Hauptman’s term on the NCUA board would run through August 2024.
