Maryland Offers Vaccine Cash Incentive

State Employees can get $100 for rolling up their sleeves and getting the COVID-19 shot.

Governor Larry Hogan announced the incentive program on Monday, urging others to follow the state’s lead, "Incentives like this are another way to reinforce the importance of getting vaccinated and we strongly encourage businesses across the state to consider offering incentives to their workers as well.”

To receive the incentive, state employees must provide proof of vaccination to their HR department and agree to receive all subsequent CDC recommended booster shots within 18 months of being fully vaccinated. The incentive is retroactive, so that all state employees who are already fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are also eligible for the program.

States and cities around the country are also getting creative when it comes to incentives to boost vaccination numbers. In West Virginia, those aged 16 to 35 who get the vaccine, will receive $100 in savings bonds, while Connecticut is offering vaccine recipients free drinks, and Detroit is giving $50 prepaid debit cards to anyone who drives another person to get their vaccination.
