Primaries in DC and Virginia Today

Voters in DC and Virginia head to the polls to determine who will be on the ballot in November.

In the District, if Muriel Bowser wins, she would become only the second mayor to serve three consecutive terms. She is being challenged by council members Robert C. White Jr. (At Large) and Trayon White Sr. (Ward 8), and former advisory neighborhood commissioner James Butler. Six council seats are also on the ballot, including chair and an at-large seat, and, for the first time since 2014, voters will have the chance to select a new Democratic nominee for attorney general to replace Karl Racine who is not seeking reelection. Historically winners in the city’s Democratic primary go on to win in the general election.

In Virginia, voters will nominate Republican candidates in the 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th Congressional Districts, while the Democrats will hold a primary in the 8th Congressional District.
