April is National Financial Literacy Month

In 2004, the United States Congress designated April as National Financial Literacy Month. Make a point to stop by a credit union during Financial Literacy Month this April and show your support for financial education.

Each April, Federal and State agencies, credit unions, schools, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and other entities observe National Financial Literacy Month to raise awareness about the importance of financial literacy education in the United States and the consequences that may be associated with a lack of understanding about personal finances.

When you stop by a credit union during April you’ll be invited to help support various financial education initiatives offered through the Credit Union Foundation MD|DC including:

  • Grants to support credit union financial literacy programs
  • Training to place Certified Financial Counselors in local credit unions
  • The Millionaire’s Club high school financial literacy program
  • Community financial fitness days
