Diversity & Inclusion Within Credit Unions

Diversity in top management positions is quickly becoming a top priority for financial institutions.

A recent report released by the House Financial Services Committee revealed that diversity inside the nation’s largest banks was lagging. The report also found that both boards and senior management positions remain mostly white and male, which has analysts predicting credit unions will soon find themselves under the microscope about their diversity efforts. The House Financial Services Committee has released a few ideas on how to recruit and increase diversity within financial institutions:

  • More focused recruiting through affinity groups and at minority colleges and universities
  • Fully close the pay equity gap for women and minorities
  • Increase investment in leadership and development programs for building a pipeline of diverse talent

The need for diversity amongst senior management positions within credit unions is an important ongoing mission that cannot be ignored.
